GP-S began in 2015 after a number of GP appraisers in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire started to see growing levels of burnout and loss of wellbeing in GPs across the two counties.
They spoke with their LMCs (Local Medical Committees) and Nottinghamshire LMC sent a survey to all GPs in Nottinghamshire asking for their experiences. Results showed low mood levels overall and a request for support from a peer, mentor or coach.
GP-S was launched in 2015 offering access to a trained peer mentor/coach for all GPs in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire for free. We found a number of local GPs had recently been trained to become mentors and felt it important to empower them to use their new found mentoring skills within GP-S as our first mentoring team. Since then we have continued to ensure we support not just clients but mentors as well providing them with training, support and guidance to enable them to build a portfolio career.
We were, and continue to be, GP led with support from local GPs at every step of the way. This enables us to truly understand the climate within General Practice and act accordingly to provide support.
As we continued to grow we developed a structured and supportive model for both mentors and clients. We’ve welcomed on board a number of new areas to the GP-S team. We’ve also developed our own package of training and workshops to support any professional group to build their own team of mentors or explore developing their wellbeing.
As we go from strength to strength, we continue to ensure GPs are at the heart of everything we do.
Our mission statement
“Providing direction, support and development to individuals and teams through coaching and coach training, helping to unlock inner potential, whilst adopting a caring ethos at its heart.”
“Our vision is for coaching to become a core component of support for the healthcare workforce and beyond, to promote well-being and meaningful engagement in work and personal lives and to inspire others to adopt the coaching mindset and to provide access to coaching support for all.”
Self-actualisation (discovering meaning in work and life)
As a service we aim to provide peer coaching & mentoring and training to healthcare professionals and beyond. Where possible our mentors are local and so have access to signposting information.
We hope that we can provide tools and resources to build up our colleagues and create a more resilient and happy workforce.
